A Child's Mental Health Journey from his/her Toddler hood to Adulthood

What is our program Safar about?

The program is a tool to help understand a child’s mental health journey from toddler hood to adulthood. It aims to discuss the mental health issues they face at the different stages of their childhood till adulthood. These include the common disorders and behavioural addictions, mental health problems resulting from bullying, problems faced by teenagers, issues caused by generation gaps, and varying parental styles.

Introduction to Mental Health of Children

The workshop specifically covers the ways of identifying healthy development in a child by recognizing the factors and signs of any psychological disturbances and understanding their causes. It also focuses on the parental and teacher’s role as an antidote to these issues. It further explores the adverse effects of the pandemic on children's mental health and helps find effective solutions and ways of improvement.

Common Disorders Faced by Children

The workshop specifically focuses on the different mental health disorders that children commonly face from their young age till their adulthood. It includes intellectual disturbances, developmental, emotional, social, and environmental concerns, as well as behavioural and emotional concerns and pervasive concerns.

Common Issues Faced by Teenagers; How to Help them

The workshop focuses specifically on the common concerns of children aged between 12-19 years. It specifically includes issues of self-esteem, peer pressure, bullying, exams, grades, romantic relationships, and the overall interpersonal domain, environmental domain, and the domain of the self.

Identifying Behavioural Problems in Children

The workshop specifically focuses on the behavioural problems and challenges children face that affect their overall health. The role of the child-parental relationship and its importance in building the child's emotional/behavioural patterns and responses are discussed. The common behavioural patterns are discussed along with their solutions.

Behavioural Addiction in Children: Cycle and Types of Addiction

The workshop covers the concept of behavioural addiction in children by focusing on identifying and comprehending certain specific behaviours that are harmful and have negative consequences. It examines particular signs and symptoms of these behaviours by also reflecting on the cycle of addiction. Various behavioral addiction types that include social media addiction, sex addiction, work addiction are studied along with their treatment methods.

Sex Education for Children

The workshop covers sex education for children to help them understand their bodies, the developmental changes that they undergo, understanding of sex, infections, and abuse.

Bullying: Types, Effects, and Ways to Help

The workshop explores the concept and types of bullying, the role of the bully and victim in a bullying situation, the role of the bystander in a bullying situation, characteristics of a bully and victim, and social factors and mental impacts of bullying. It also provides primary and secondary intervention methods for victims and bystanders.

Parenting Style

The workshop explores various parenting styles and further discusses their advantages and disadvantages in a child's development. Each parenting style is discussed following their outcomes in a child, and several effective child management strategies are also discussed.

Generation Gap and How to Deal with It

The workshop helps to explore and better understand the generation gap, its impact on children’s mental health, its relationship with culture, as well as the ways of dealing effectively towards issue resolution for the same.
