India's Leading Mental Health Organization
Built on Lived Experience

Akash Ramchandani · Psychologist & Founder · MSc Clinical Psychology · 6+ Years

"I am a neurodivergent — an autistic adult with ADHD and C-PTSD, all clinically diagnosed. It took me nearly a decade to find the right therapy, get the right diagnosis, and find the right dose and combination of medicines.

There are still days I struggle. Not because I'm not trying hard enough — but because the current structure isn't built for me.

So I built Home of Beautiful Souls Foundation for others — a mental heath organization built by and for people with lived experience."

✦ Our Origin Story

The Story Behind India's Leading Mental Health Organization

✦ A comic story — narrated by our founder through the HOBS mascots

"If you want to improve the world, start by making people feel safer."
— Dr. Stephen W. Porges, Founding Director, Kinsey Institute Traumatic Stress Research Consortium

I built HOBS Foundation around this ideology — and my personal experience. Here's what that experience taught me about what the system gets wrong, and how we built something that gets it right.

01
Part 01

Therapy helped. But something was still missing.

HOBS mental health organization India — therapy and community support

Narrated through our HOBS mascots

Therapy helped. Meds reduced the intensity. But I still lacked connections, resources, and safety outside them. So I built India's first mental health community.

📚 What the research says
Studies show that social connection is one of the strongest predictors of mental health outcomes. Peer support significantly reduces psychological distress — with outcomes comparable to professional-led care. The WHO identifies community-based support as a core pillar of recovery, not a supplement.

At HOBS, we don't just bring trauma-informed professionals — we build a community of people with lived experience and peer support around every person.
🌿 What HOBS does differently
Community at HOBS isn't an add-on to therapy. It's the container that makes everything else possible — peer support, lived experience, and professional care, all woven together in one safe space.
And it wasn't just the loneliness. The medication itself came with problems nobody prepared me for.
02
Part 02

The system prescribed medication — but skipped every step that should come before and after.

Mental health organization India addressing gaps in psychiatric care

Narrated through our HOBS mascots

Nobody warned me about the weight gain. The numbness. The fog. Nobody checked if something physical was causing it first. I found out the hard way.

🩺 How HOBS does psychiatric care properly
At HOBS, psychiatric consultation isn't just a prescription. It starts by ruling out physical causes — blood work, differential diagnosis, checking what the body is doing before assuming the mind is the problem. Side effects are discussed upfront. Follow-ups are built in, not optional. Psychoeducation — knowing what your medication does, why, and what to expect — is part of every care plan from day one.
📋 What we include that others miss
Pre-medication physical screening, side effect monitoring, dose titration support, and regular psychiatrist check-ins — all standard at HOBS, all optional or absent in most clinics.
That's when being neurodivergent became my biggest advantage — because I could see the map of everything that was missing.
03
Part 03

Being neurodivergent helped me see exactly where the system was broken.

HOBS mental health organization India — neurodivergent-affirmative approach

Narrated through our HOBS mascots

"Medication didn't touch my executive dysfunction. But body doubling — simply having someone present — changed everything. The system had no framework for that."

👥 What HOBS was built to provide
Most therapy frameworks were built on research that excluded neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+ experiences. At HOBS, neurodivergent-affirmative and queer-affirmative therapy (QAT) aren't add-ons. They're the foundation. Co-regulation, body doubling, peer support: not supplements to therapy, but core parts of how people here actually heal.
🧠 Neurodivergent-affirmative care
We don't pathologise the way you think. We build care plans that work with your neurology, not against it. Whether you're autistic, have ADHD, or both — HOBS has therapists who understand from lived and professional experience.
So I built what didn't exist. A community where no one navigates mental health alone.
04
Part 04

So, I built what I wish existed- India's Most Affordable and Inclusive Mental Health Organization- Home of Beautiful Souls Foundation

Building India's most inclusive mental health organization from lived experience

Narrated through our HOBS mascots

A community where people feel seen, supported, and safe enough to grow. A place where healing happens together — not in isolation.

Trauma-informed therapy. Neurodivergent-affirmative care. Queer-affirmative therapy. Community. Peer support. Body doubling. People with lived experience who get it — not from a textbook, but from living it.

At HOBS, we don't just treat minds. We build communities that heal.

✦ What We Stand For

As the most Inclusive Mental Health Organization

We gurantee that every session, every interaction, every decision at HOBS is guided by six non-negotiable values.

🧡
Trauma-Informed Care

We understand that trauma shapes mental health. Every therapist at HOBS is trained to recognise, respect, and respond to the impact of trauma — and never re-traumatise.

🧠
Neurodivergent Affirmative

We celebrate different ways of thinking and being. Autism, ADHD, and other forms of neurodivergence are treated as differences to honour — not disorders to fix.

🏳️‍🌈
Queer Affirmative Therapy

HOBS is a fully LGBTQIA+ affirming space. Our therapists use QAT frameworks that validate all gender identities, sexual orientations, and relationship structures without question.

🌍
Culturally Sensitive

Mental health doesn't exist in a vacuum. We bring deep awareness of Indian cultural contexts, family systems, and socio-economic realities into every care plan.

🔒
Safe & Confidential

Your story stays with us. We uphold strict confidentiality, a zero-judgment policy, and create spaces where you can speak freely and be truly heard.

🌱
Holistic Wellbeing

Mental health is connected to mind, body, relationships, and community. We address the whole person — not just symptoms — through integrated, evidence-based care.
