FAQs

Common Questions About Our Free Mental Health Tests Online

Are these screenings a substitute for professional diagnosis?

No. These are standardised screening tools that help identify potential symptoms — they are not diagnostic instruments. A qualified mental health professional must evaluate and diagnose any condition. Screenings are a first step to understanding what support you may need.

What happens to my results after I submit?

After completing a screening, you'll be asked for your name and email. Our team will send you a personalised results summary and follow up within 24 hours. Your information is kept strictly confidential and never shared with third parties.

I scored high on a screening — what should I do?

A high score indicates your symptoms may benefit from professional attention — it does not confirm a diagnosis. We recommend booking a session with one of our therapists, or messaging us on WhatsApp. Our team will guide you to the right level of support based on your results.

Why can't ADHD and Autism be self-screened?

ADHD and Autism are neurodevelopmental conditions that present very differently across individuals, particularly in adults. Accurate assessment requires developmental history, cross-setting observation and clinical judgement. Self-report tools are insufficient and can lead to missed diagnoses or false positives. A formal assessment by a qualified clinician is essential.

Does HOBS offer corporate mental health screenings?

Yes. We work with corporates, NGOs, schools and colleges to conduct group burnout assessments and wellbeing programmes. We provide aggregate reports, individual follow-ups and tailored intervention plans. Reach out via WhatsApp or book a call with Akash to discuss your organisation's needs.

How is the Depression Screening different from the Depression, Anxiety & Stress Screening?

The Depression Screening focuses specifically on the severity of depressive symptoms — mood, energy, cognition, sleep and appetite — over the past two weeks. The Depression, Anxiety & Stress Screening covers all three dimensions together over the past week and gives you three separate scores. If you want a focused picture of depression alone, take the Depression Screening. If you want to understand how all three are interacting, take the combined one.

Is the Personality Screening a diagnosis of any disorder?

No. The Personality Screening measures your natural tendencies across five dimensions — Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness and Neuroticism. It is not a clinical assessment and cannot diagnose any disorder. There are no right or wrong results. It is purely a tool for self-understanding and personal growth.

What is the Trauma & PTSD Screening measuring — do I need to have been through something specific?

The Trauma & PTSD Screening measures symptoms that commonly follow a stressful or traumatic experience — such as intrusive memories, avoidance, negative thoughts and hyperarousal. You do not need a dramatic or "big" event to experience trauma. Prolonged stress, relationship difficulties, childhood adversity and medical experiences can all leave trauma symptoms. If any of the 20 items feel relevant to you, it is worth taking.

What do the Burnout Screening results mean for my workplace?

The MBI gives three scores — Emotional Exhaustion, Depersonalisation and Personal Accomplishment. High exhaustion and depersonalisation combined with low personal accomplishment indicates significant burnout that requires intervention. The Work Stress Screening gives an overall burnout severity score. Both can be used individually or as part of a larger organisational wellbeing assessment. If you score in the moderate or severe range, connecting with a therapist or requesting an EAP referral from HR is strongly recommended.

What does the Sleep Quality Screening cover and why does it matter for mental health?

The Sleep Quality Screening looks at how well you are actually sleeping — including how long it takes to fall asleep, how many hours you get, how often you wake up and how tired you feel during the day. Poor sleep is both a symptom and a cause of mental health difficulties. It is closely linked to depression, anxiety and burnout. Identifying sleep problems early can significantly improve treatment outcomes.

Can I take more than one screening?

Yes, absolutely. You can take as many screenings as you find relevant. Many people find it helpful to take the Depression and Anxiety screenings together, or the two Burnout tools if they are in a demanding work environment. Each screening is independent and your results from one do not affect another. Just make sure to enter your details after each one so our team can send you a comprehensive follow-up.

What happens after I submit my name and email?

After you submit, you will see your results immediately on screen. Our team will also send a personalised results summary to your email within 24 hours, along with guidance on what your scores may mean and what level of support might be helpful. You may also receive a gentle follow-up from our care team — you are under no obligation to book anything. We just want to make sure you know your options.

How is a professional assessment different from a self-screening?

A self-screening takes 5–20 minutes and uses standardised questionnaires to give an indication of symptom severity. A professional assessment is a comprehensive clinical evaluation conducted by a trained psychologist or psychiatrist. It includes a structured clinical interview, developmental history, observation, collateral information where needed, and standardised testing administered by a clinician. This is essential for conditions like ADHD, Autism, Bipolar Disorder, OCD and BPD, where self-report alone is insufficient for accurate diagnosis.

Is HOBS a safe space for LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent individuals?

Yes, unconditionally. HOBS was founded by Akash Ramchandani, an autistic adult with ADHD and C-PTSD, who built this organisation because he could not find a space that truly understood him. Every therapist and psychiatrist at HOBS is trained in LGBTQIA+ affirming, trauma-informed and neurodivergent-affirmative care. You will never be asked to mask, conform or justify your identity here.
